FIELD ESTIMATES

Explain the options while you are on site.

When the scope changes, the technician needs a simple way to document an option, explain the price, and record what the customer chooses.

In development · workflows described here are planned. Availability, supported devices, and limits have not been verified.

Start from the problem found

A field estimate should explain the issue in plain language. Describe the proposed repair or replacement, what is included, any assumptions, and when the work can take place. Avoid vague line items that make it hard for customers to compare options.

Give clear choices when appropriate

For some work, good/better/best choices help customers understand trade-offs. The lowest price should not leave out necessary safety work, and the highest price should not be described as essential without justification. Each option needs its own scope and total.

Connect approval to the job

An accepted option should show which work was authorized and by whom, with an appropriate record. Declined options should not be billed. If a technician needs office approval or revised pricing, the workflow should make that clear.

Avoid pressure and protect accuracy

Mobile estimating can be fast without rushing decisions. Verify tax treatment, financing disclosures, warranties, permits, and any regulated work before presenting the final document.

Example to try: A leak repair reveals corroded valves. The estimate documents the immediate repair, optional additional replacement, and the reason for each recommendation. Approval is recorded before extra work.

A practical checklist

  • Explain a changed scope using plain text and itemized options.
  • Record which estimate version the customer actually accepted.
  • Keep declined optional work out of the final invoice.
  • Ask who can approve exceptions or changes to price on site.

Good questions

What else would
you like to know?

Can customers approve estimates on a phone?

Digital approvals must be demonstrated and reviewed for the applicable transaction type.

Does it support good/better/best options?

That is an intended design pattern, not a verified live feature.

Does a field estimate create an invoice automatically?

That depends on approved workflow and actual code; test the estimate-to-invoice chain.
